The Northland Volleyball Club was founded in the Summer of 1993 at Bones’ Bar in Wrenshall, MN by a group of people who were not satisfied with the amount or quality of volleyball available to adults and youth in the Cloquet area. We played in a couple of the leagues at bars and some of the volleyball was pretty “ugly.” There also was no place locally to play once the outdoor season was over — and it is a short season in northern Minnesota.

So, we made arrangements with the Fond du Lac Ojibwe School to use their gym. In two seasons, we had outgrown their one court and moved to Carlton High School, where we could use two courts for our Sunday-night leagues and Wednesday-night members open gym. Our Summer leagues were played at Bones’ Bar for a season. We then moved them primarily to Iverson Inn and ran a 2s league at Country Corner in Brookston before all the outdoor leagues were consolidated at the Iverson Inn. Around the Summer of 2000 we moved our Summer leagues to The River Inn in Scanlon.

In the Spring of 2006, we began our Junior Olympic program to provide more volleyball opportunities to the youth of our area.
